Address to a greedy Squirrel

You know full well who is the boss,
and that in case I‘m really cross,
I won‘t be sitting back and frown
but bring your favoured tree right down
from which you, with unnerving guts,
year after year steal all my nuts!

Would not complain if you but stole
some of those nuts and not the whole
entire harvest! Same as you
I have been looking forward to
devouring them, am quite as keen
on hazelnuts. Don’t like them green,

though, which is just the state
you go and tuck them in. Too late
all efforts to secure my share.
Before they’re ripe the tree is bare.
Oh no, excuse me! Kindly you
of all those hundreds left me two!
