Life’s not fair!

Someone has to do the shopping
and the hopping
and the mopping.
Someone has, when things are flopping,
take responsibility.

Someone has to do the cooking,
and the looking
after, and the booking.
Someone – but why always ME???

Someone has to water flowers,
clean the showers,
do odd hours-
TRUE!
.
Whereas someone else is lazy
and as crazy as can be.
Sitting back and having visions,
taking rests and rash decisions,

and I see
that while I am badly slaving,
while I’m craving
for some fun,
all is had by just this one:
YOU!!!

Running

Some feet flying, some feet plodding,
Necks all uniformly nodding –
Faces without fun.

Some ears plugged, some voices mumbling
Figures straight and figures stumbling –
People on the run.

Some are thinking: What a strain this!
Some are wondering what the gain is.
Some just get it done!

My bright future

As a young girl I was told:
It’s a woman’s duty
to cherish her beauty,
to care about looks
more than for books.

But at seventy,
I was told,
you are free
cause you are old.

You may become lazy,
you may turn crazy,
do as you like
ride the funniest bike.
You may spoil your figure
with pleasure and vigour,
eat as many steaks,
devour as many cakes
as you can
then.

So I’m looking forward to reaching that age,
turn a new page,
read to excess,
and dress
in the most curious fashion,
develop a passion
for very old men
then.

Kiss Dream – Dream Kiss

A dream so sweet still makes me glad.
A dream! It’s ages since I had
A dream as good as this:
A dream about a kiss.

A kiss, I felt was overdue.
A kiss, I’m not entitled to,
A kiss which seemed so right
A kiss of sheer delight.

A kiss that when it touched my lips,
Sent shivers down my fingertips.
Oh, nothing, nothing was amiss
In this dream of a kiss!

Decorative Art

Give me a mirror, and I’ll start
The act of decorative art
With pots and paints and pencils
And brushes as utensils.

Light make-up spread with fingertips,
A little ruby to the lips
Deep black to lids and lashes
Grey gloss, a few, few dashes.

A touch of rouge on either cheek
The hair with lotion smart and sleek
And for the nails a garnish
of shiny red hot varnish.

Some powder of the faintest hue
As final finish when I’m through.
And presently you see
A work of art that’s me!

Address to a greedy Squirrel

You know full well who is the boss,
and that in case I‘m really cross,
I won‘t be sitting back and frown
but bring your favoured tree right down
from which you, with unnerving guts,
year after year steal all my nuts!

Would not complain if you but stole
some of those nuts and not the whole
entire harvest! Same as you
I have been looking forward to
devouring them, am quite as keen
on hazelnuts. Don’t like them green,

though, which is just the state
you go and tuck them in. Too late
all efforts to secure my share.
Before they’re ripe the tree is bare.
Oh no, excuse me! Kindly you
of all those hundreds left me two!

On very old age

No earthly care,
Each day alike,
You sit and stare
Till death does strike.

In cotton wool
Swathed is your brain,
Just like a fool
You try in vain

To recollect
The past you had.
Was yours a good life?
Was it bad?

Sadly bereft
Of your own mind
With one hope left:
May death be kind!

Ode to old friendship

Old friendship never is to fail.
It will persist, it will survive
for years on end, throughout your life. –
But like old bread it might get stale.

Away, of course, you will not throw
old bread (nor friends) you put them though
in some far corner for you may
still fancy them – some rainy day.

Regrettably you must admit:
you do not want them quite so close
for to the style of life you chose
they don’t belong, they do not fit.

Stay loyal? Yes! Help, if needs be.
Little desire though to see
them frequently since common ground
these days is rarely to be found!
