My bright future

As a young girl I was told:
It’s a woman’s duty
to cherish her beauty,
to care about looks
more than for books.

But at seventy,
I was told,
you are free
cause you are old.

You may become lazy,
you may turn crazy,
do as you like
ride the funniest bike.
You may spoil your figure
with pleasure and vigour,
eat as many steaks,
devour as many cakes
as you can
then.

So I’m looking forward to reaching that age,
turn a new page,
read to excess,
and dress
in the most curious fashion,
develop a passion
for very old men
then.
